The goal is to bring together African artists and begin conversations and reflections around the question of borders. The most prominent format of Invisible borders is the Trans African Road trip which happens nearly every year. The most ambitious of these trips was an over 4 month long journey from Lagos to Sarajevo. Emeka Okerekes work was exhibited all over the world from Sao Tome to the Biennale in Venice. Today Emeka Okereke lives between Berlin and Lagos and has just come back from the Photography Biennale in Bamako the capital of Mali where he and his team held a 10-day workshop, exhibitions, presentations and panel discussion. In short: He has many stories to tell.

00:44:44 Das Gaza-Protokoll entstand im Rahmen eines im August 2019 angefangenen Theaterprojektes in Gaza-Stadt, das im März 2020 eine weitere Fortsetzung findet. Es ist eine Zusammenarbeit mit palästinensischen Autorinnen und Theaterschaffenden, in deren Zentrum das im August 2018 bombardierte Said Al Mishal Theater steht.
Die Reise nach Gaza beginnt mit einem Einreiseverbot, eine erste Ahnung von der Willkür, die das Land bestimmt. Ein für Einreisende kaum durchschaubares Netzwerk an Vorschriften, Einschränkungen und Grenzverläufen hält das fragmentierte Gebiet besetzt und markiert eine erste Trennungslinie zwischen Eingeschlossenen und Außenstehenden.
Die Frage, was hält uns besetzt und hindert uns davor, ungezwungen in Berührung zu treten, begleitet diesen Bericht. Aber auch: was verbindet uns, und was kann als Common Ground aufgedeckt werden? Es sind Momentaufnahmen, gerichtet an eine Palästinenserin, der es untersagt ist, einzureisen, und dient zur Vorlage für Autorinnen und Theaterschaffende in Gaza, denen es untersagt ist, auszureisen. Es ist zuletzt der Versuch, sich gegenseitig lesbar zu machen.

On Friday, 17th January after exploring in workshops the inner white dancer with Joana Tischkau and the birding aesthetic politics by Nadir Sourigi the Kammercampus talked about the topic of naming while in the process of finding the names for their situated collectives in the days of the festival.
Also, they looked more deeply into power structures on stage and in what ways can tension produce change?
The not-D collective was exploring the space after "No", by reclaiming, reimagining and creating.

Mit der Underground Railroad durch die wahre Geschichte des amerikanischen Rassismus
Die Underground Railroad war eine geheime Organisation, die im 19. Jahrhundert schwarzen Sklaven aus dem Süden der USA bei der Flucht in den Norden half. In seinem mit dem Pulitzer-Preis und dem National Book Award ausgezeichneten Roman "Underground Railroad" erzählt der Schriftsteller Colson Whitehead von der Flucht der jungen Cora von der Baumwollplantage, auf der sie aufgewachsen ist. Es geht durch die von Sklavenjägern wimmelnden Wälder und Sümpfe bis in die trügerische Sicherheit der improvisierten Verstecke der Underground Railroad. Der Roman erzählt auf sehr eindrückliche Weise die Anfänge die Geschichte der Sklaverei. Ein Stunde haben wir mit dem Pulitzer-Preisträger gesprochen, der auch für den Zündfunk Generator exklusiv einige seiner Lieblingssongs auflegt. Und weil trotz der Abschaffung der Sklaverei längst nicht der alltägliche Rassismus in den USA verschwunden ist, lassen wir Colson Whitehead in einen virtuellen Dialog treten mit zwei weiteren brillanten afro-amerikanischen Intellektuellen: mit dem Essayisten Ta-Nehisi Coates und mit dem Historiker und Professor Ibram X. Kendi - soeben ist sein Sachbuch "Gebrandmarkt" erschienen - Untertitel: "Die wahre Geschichte des Rassismus in Amerika" für das er ebenfalls den National Book Award bekommen hat - allerdings für Nonfiction.

Der Ausspruch ist zugleich das Motto von Friendly Confrontations. Der ehemalige Leiter des Hauses der Kunst in München Okwui Enwezor umschrieb damit die ihm eigene vielstimmige Art zu kuratieren. Manche nannten den Nigerianer auch einen Propheten einer postwestlichen Zeit. Fest steht er hat die westliche Kunstwelt ordentlich umgekrempelt und ihr neue Perspektiven eröffnet. Der nigerianische Kurator verstarb mit nur 55 Jahren am 15 März 2019.

Menschen mit verschiedenen ethnischen Backgrounds haben oft nicht nur eine kulturelle Identität. Sie bewegen sich zwischen zwei unterschiedlichen Communitys, werden von beiden beeinflusst, aber oft nicht in gleichem Maße. Die Afroamerikanische Produzentin Jocelyn Robinson lebt mit dieser Erfahrung: ihr Vater war ein schwarzer Soldat aus Ohio, ihre Mutter – eine weiße Frau aus der Arbeiterschicht in Liverpool, Großbritannien. Jocelyn Robinson ist in den USA geboren und erzählt über ihre komplexe Erfahrung als Person of Color in dem Podcast „The Big Pond“. Sie ist als Pädagogin und freie Medienproduzentin tätig. Für ihren Podcast ist Jocelyn nach Berlin gereist, um afroamerikanische und afrodeutsche Communities zu dokumentieren.

Jay Rutledge im Gespräch mit Tufan Aydogan, Kopf der Band Grup Dogus. Tufan Aydogan kam in den 70er Jahren nach München und spielte für die wachsende Community der türkischen Gastarbeiter. 1975 nahmen sie eine Kassette auf, die 2019 als LP wiederveröffentlicht wurde. Außerdem live im Kitchen Talk der Musiker und Plattensammler Jan Weissenfeldt. Wir sprechen über die Einflüsse von Plattensammlern auf die Musikproduktion und Soundästethik, Erfolge von Bands wie Altin Gün und was für uns an der Musik der 70er und 80er Jahre egal ob sie aus Thailand, Äthiopien oder Nigeria kommt so faszinierend ist.

Kolonialismus und das kapitalistische System zerstören diese Grundlage, die für das gute Leben wichtig sind. Karachi Beachkomplexe Zusammenhänge anhand von Geräuschen erzählt, die von der Meeresküste in Pakistan erzählen.
Die Field Recordings von Karachi Beach Radio sind auf der Homepage des Projekts verfügbar. Audioaufnahmen werden auch im Pakistani City Radio und anderen lokalen und internationalen Sendern ausgestrahlt. Marc-André hat mit Yaminay Chaudhri und Julia Tieke, den beiden Macherinnen von Karachi Beach Radio telefoniert und sie zu symbolischer Bedeutung des Strandes gefragt - und zu den Gründen, dieses Projekt da zu starten.

01:30:53 Ntone Edjabe put together a collage of original sound recordings from FESTAC 77. It is a mind blowing trip through the music scene of the late 70ies. We can listen to Miriam Makeba talk about her life in exile in Guinea, Jazzgiant Randy Weston visits Fela Kutis shrine, we delve into concerts of congolese legends such as OK Jazz or jazz icon Sun Ra. Official announcements from the Nigerian military government feature next to original broadcasts by the international press, or Afro american guests listening to some of the best musicians from the African continent for the first time. The Pan African Space Station and its pilot Ntone Edjabe present a fascinating world of contexts, perspectives and agendas that give the listener a feel for the historic importance of FESTAC 77 for Africa.

Chimurenga has just released a book that presents a huge selection of historic documents from FESTAC 77.

Wenn die Boxer/innen in den Ring steigen, geht es um Migration, um Klasse, um strukturelle Ausschlüsse. Vielen dürfte der Name Biafra, durch die erschreckenden Bilder von hungernden Kindern in Erinnerung geblieben sein. Sie waren damals fast täglich in den Medien und haben maßgeblich zu einer beispielslosen humanitären Hilfsaktion beigetragen, aber auch nachhaltig ein Bild eines krisengeplagten, armen Kontinents geprägt. Der Historiker Kevin O’-Sullivan geht in einem Interview auf die Rolle westlicher Medien während des Konflikts ein und Carolin Philipp von g-lokal spricht über die Verantwortung, die sich aus der enormen Wirkmächtigkeit schockierender Bilder ableitet.

Die größte Erfolgsgeschichte aus der Musikwelt Afrikas ist der Siegeszug einer Musikform namens Afrobeats, die von Lagos in den letzten 5 Jahren nicht nur die Musikwelt Afrikas erobert hat, sondern auch international Erfolge feiert. Georg Milz ist nach Lagos gereist und hat einige der wichtigsten Akteure der Szene in Lagos getroffen und ein längeres Interview mit Afrobeats Superstar Mr Eazi in London geführt. Seine Beiträge liefen im DLF und im Zündfunk in Bayern 2.„AfriCourage – Ein Musikfestival in Gambia“ (30min)
Der Musikjournalist Johannes Theurer (RadioEins) erzählt die Geschichte des making of des Musikfestivals AfriCourage, das am 28 Dezember im Fussballstadion von Banjul über die Bühne ging. Entstanden ist AfriCourage aus dem Open Mic Festival, das in Gambia eine wichtige Rolle beim Sturz des Militärdiktators Yahya Jammeh 2017 spielte. Im Feature kommen beteiligte Musiker aus Gambia zu Wort, internationale Gäste wie Smockey aus Burkina Faso, aber auch die lokalen Veranstalter und Gäste des Festivals. Ein spannender Einblick in die Musik Gambia, das Musikbusiness in Westafrika und die Herausforderungen internationaler Kooperationsprojekte. 00:29:54 Am 28. Dezember 2019 fand in Banjul, der Hauptstadt Gambias, in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Goethe Institut in Dakar das Festival AfriCourage statt. Johannes Theurer Musikredakteur bei RadioEins und ehemaliger Chefredakteur von Radio MultiKulti in Berlin war von Beginn an bei der Organisation dabei und erzählt eindrücklich von den Herausforderungen und Schwierigkeiten bei der Organisation des Events. Neben technischen Problemen mit der Stromversorgung, Logistik und kulturellen Unterschieden, geht es auch um die Angst vieler Gambianer vor Vereinnahmung gegenüber einer Veranstaltung an der erstmals auch internationale Unterstützer und Bands beteiligt sind.

KammerCampus co-moderated public talks with Nofar Sela and Joana Tischkau and closed the program with a joint studio jam!

01:02:47 Auf Einladung vom Goethe Institut war Ruben Jonas Schnell im Oktober für ein paar Tage in Ramallah im Westjordanland, um Musik in den palästinensischen Gebieten kennenzulernen.
Mit rund 30.000 Einwohnern ist Ramallah eine vergleichsweise kleine Stadt, von Wüste umgeben, im Oktober waren es 30 Grad war. Es gibt Geschäfte, Autos, gepflasterten Straßen – einen friedlichen, überraschend „normalen“ Alltag.
Mit der Musikerin und Produzentin Sarouna Mashasha sprach Ruben Jonas Schnell über Hintergründe des Lebens im Westjordanland, über Musik und Kultur und die Schwierigkeiten, mit denen sich viele Menschen dort konfrontiert sehen. HipHop ist das dominante Genre. Vor allem durch Trap aus den amerikanischen Südstaaten ist palästinensischer HipHop beeinflusst. Wobei die Rapper hier weniger von Gang-Krimimalität und Drogen erzählen als von den von ihrem persönlichen Alltag: Oft geht es um Depression und Hoffnungslosigkeit.
Auch andere afroamerikanische Musik ist wichtige Referenz für viele junge MusikerInnen in den palästinensischen Gebieten. Warum das so ist, erzählt Sarouna Masha im Interview – heute im ersten Teil vom Zimmer 4 36 mit Musik aus der West Bank.
